ProActive complied to accreditation criteria and meets best practice standards across all of its services. Consumables are not covered by ACC, so a small fee will be charged to cover these if required. Failure to attend appointments will also incur a surcharge of $20.00.

Exercise Physiology

Your posture, core stability and the way you move are integral to your overall health and function. Specialised exercise physiology services begin with a specialised muscle balance and lifestyle assessment. This initial holistic assessment of your physical presentation looks at your posture, joint range of movement, core strength/stability, and analyses your Movement Patterns . This assessment is a warrant of fitness for your body and health. From here your Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist can create specific exercise based programme targeted to meet your unique needs, whether it be for injury rehabilitation, injury prevention or for performance enhancement.

Exercise Rehabilitation Programmes

This is a comprehensive needs based service available to those who are restricted from returning to normal daily, work, or sporting activities or independence. This could be due to fatigue, pain, strength deficit or ongoing functional deficit among many more. This is an intensive programme up to 12 weeks aimed at returning you to independence. These programmes contain extensive education in all areas of injury recovery, corrective exercise, wellness and pain management.

Pain Management

There is no question that pain is essential to our survival. With an acute injury or illness, pain is the body’s way of letting the mind know that there is something wrong. Often however, if pain persists past the acute and into the chronic stage of an injury, (after normal injury healing times), pain often ceases to be a useful warning of an underlying physical problem or damage. In fact, in many cases pain becomes the problem itself. Ongoing pain may cause a wide range of other problems in your life, including problems with friends and loved ones, feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression, insomnia, fear of activity and a whole myriad of other issues.

ProActive works in a team approach, with Psychologists and specialist Pain Doctors as part of this team, to ensure you get an all encompassing approach to improve your health and solution the effects of injury on your life!

PGAP (progressive goal attainment programme)

A Treatment Program for Minimizing Pain-Related Disability

Activity as the Key to Rehabilitation Success:

Pain contributes to activity avoidance. For individuals with persistent pain, activity avoidance can lead to deconditioning, lower tolerance for physical activity, increased disability and ultimately, reduced quality of life. Recent research has supported the view that return to activity is critical to the success of rehabilitation for individuals with persistent pain conditions.

The Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP) is the first disability prevention program specifically designed to target psychosocial risk factors for pain and disability. PGAP is a 10-week activity mobilization program that has been tailored to meet the rehabilitation needs of individuals who are struggling to overcome the challenges associated with a wide range of persistent pain conditions. PGAP is suitable for clients who are suffering from a persistent pain condition, and for whom pain symptoms and psychosocial factors are significant barriers to rehabilitation progress. PGAP has produced positive results for individuals suffering from chronic musculoskeletal conditions, whiplash, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
