Eye healthcare checks are recommended every 2 years. If there is a family history or you are experiencing certain issues with your eyes then more regular check ups would be recommended.
At Visique Taupo Optometrists you will feel confident in putting your eye health in our hands.
Checking your vision to see if you require glasses or contact lenses is just the beginning of our extensive eye examinations.
Digital imaging of both the internal and external eye together with Visual field analysis one of the techniques used to determine and document your eye health.
By the end of your 40 minutes consultation, with the optometrist, you can be reassured that all relevant tests and procedures WILL have been performed. We ensure that you can not only see as well as you possibly can, but also that your eyes are healthy. If any abnormalities are detected, sound advice will be given about your options and where necessary referral to the appropriate specialist can be arranged.
Eye health problems such as glaucoma or cataracts can be identified, together with general health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
The Digital Retinal Camera allows the Optometrist to perform comprehensive health screening of your eyes, which is essential for anyone with a family history of macular degeneration, glaucoma or diabetes.
Our experts use the latest technology including:
- Digital Retinal Photography for detecting diseases at the back of the eye.
- Auto Refraction to give an initial assessment of any refractive errors that may be present.
- Visual Fields Analysis for glaucoma management.
Our high-resolution Digital Retinal Camera allows us to take a photo of the back of your eye. This allows a more detailed and wider angled view than would normally be achieved with conventional observation methods.
Retinal images such as this one are kept on file to monitor future changes.
Visual field testing is an important tool in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. It is used to confirm if glaucoma has affected the visual function, evaluate severity and to monitor progression of the disease. The Humphrey Field Analyser II is a diagnostic tool used to examine a client's visual field. It is the recognised standard of care for early diagnosis and management of ocular diseases resulting in visual field loss.
Regular eye tests ensure your eyes are healthy and that you are wearing spectacles most suited to your needs.
With lens technology we can now prescribe spectacles which provide clear comfortable vision for most daily activities. We take great care in recommending the best lens for your individual needs.
If computer work commands a large part of your day you may benefit from spectacles designed specifically for viewing objects at arms length. These lenses are called Occupational lenses and give you the very best reading area whilst combining an intermediate prescription at the same time.
Ensuring that your desk, chair and screen are set at the right height for your individual requirements can go a long way in preventing visual fatigue. Eye strain, neck/back pain and headaches can all result from sitting in the wrong position for extended periods.
Ideally, if you use a computer monitor, it should be:
- Situated directly in your line of sight.
- 5-15 degrees below your line of sight.
- At least 60cm away from your eyes.
Working in adequate light is essential for comfortable vision. Avoid annoying reflections which add to visual stress by turning your screen away from windows and bright lights.
Reduce reflections from the surfaces of your spectacle lenses by having them supplied with a quality Anti-Reflection Coating. Lenses supplied this way are also Anti-Static and easier to clean than they ever used to be. A quality Anti-Reflection coated lens will improve the performance of your eyewear by allowing 10% more light to travel better through your lenses.
Try to take regular breaks when working for prolonged periods at a screen. Relaxing your eyes by looking out the window for a few seconds can help prevent fatigue.
When concentrating on a particular task we can sometimes forget to blink, allowing the front surface of our eye to become dehydrated and uncomfortable. Many people suffer from dry eyes while concentrating on a computer screen, particularly when working in an air-conditioned environment. Reminding yourself to blink can prevent this. Ocular lubricants are available from your Optometrist if dry eyes continue to be a problem.
It is wise to have an eye test every two years. If you are experiencing problems get a test as soon as possible.
