Picnic and Cricket at the Oval « Horsham Downs Community Church

This Sunday is a chance to picnic together at Woodlands (just north of Gordonton), enjoy the setting and a friendly T20 match on the oval.

Some kids games will be organised, and the gardens will be available to wander through at your leisure. Here’s the details:

  • Come to church on Sunday with your picnic lunch and suitable clothing for playing cricket (if you are keen to play) or garden rambling.
  • For those who don’t know how to find Woodlands you can find a map on the Woodlands website. It’s very easy from the church: left onto Horsham Downs Road, right onto Bankier Road, right onto Gordonton Road, left onto Whitikahu Road. Woodlands is well sign posted.
  • We will be picnicing at the opposite end of the cricket oval from the cafe.
  • There are plenty of trees but you are welcome to bring an umbrella or gazebo if you would like to as well as a rug to sit on.
  • We have other games planned for those who are not so keen to play cricket.
  • The Woodlands Cafe will be open for those who want to purchase drinks, food, icecreams, etc.
  • There will be a wedding happening in the Woodlands Function Centre when we arrive and as this is a private function, we need to respect that, so please remember when walking around the Gardens, not to go into the area behind the Homestead. It may not be possible to look through the Homestead either as it may be in use for wedding photos.
  • The weather forecast for Sunday is patchy at the moment but we are expecting that to improve!
  • If we do need to cancel because of rain, it will be announced on Facebook and at the morning service and we can picnic together in our church facilities if need be!
  • Come prepared to have a great time.

Well just before Easter I was counting my losses thinking I had made a wrong call so it is all praise to the Lord for the way things have turned out and yes, He is faithful to the promises we came here with this year. Well they probably don’t know to what extent we have gained yet, but it will certainly help them to see once we balance the books that it is possible to sustain a living from farming.
