In Road Crash Rescue (RCR) Challenges, teams are put in scenarios that simulate real life road crashes and are marked on their extrication techniques.

National and regional RCR Challenge take place every two years and are run in accordance with the rules and guidelines laid out by the Australasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO).

Upcoming Events

The 2012 National Road Crash Rescue Challenge is scheduled for the weekend of 18 & 19 February 2012 and will be hosted by the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Past Events

Seven South Island teams competed at the 2009 Region 3 & 4 RCR Challenge, hosted by the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Eight North Island teams competed in the 2009 Region 1 & 2 RCR Challenge, hosted by the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Firefighter Combat Challenge | United Fire Brigades' Association

Wearing full bunker gear and breathing from a BA set, each competitor simulates the physical demands of real life firefighting, as they race against each other and the clock, by performing a series of 5 tasks over a prescribed course. We regret to advise our members that, in light of the recent earthquakes in Canterbury, the UFBA has decided to cancel the National Firefighter Combat Challenge scheduled for October 2 in Christchurch.

Waterway Challenge | United Fire Brigades' Association

UFBA Waterway Challenges are hose-running competitions held every two years, with the next regional and national events scheduled for January and February of 2011. The first ever UFBA Regional Waterway Challenges were held in Te Aroha, Carterton, Hokitika, and Mosgiel in January and February, 2009. Oamaru is the confirmed venue for the 2011 UFBA Region 4 Waterway Challenge, scheduled to take place on 5th February.

Australasian Events | United Fire Brigades' Association

Eight New Zealand teams were selected by the UFBA to represent the country in the Australasian Firefighters Championship, hosted in Rotorua on 17th & 18th October.

UFBA Challenges | United Fire Brigades' Association

In the interests of promoting Challenges on a long-term basis, preference will be given to those that are currently active and enrolled members of a brigade. The UFBA runs a full schedule of challenges aimed at helping firefighters hone their skills in a competitive environment. Oamaru is the confirmed venue for the 2011 UFBA Region 4 Waterway Challenge, scheduled to take place on 5th February.

Conferences | United Fire Brigades' Association

Almost 300 delegates from member brigades around the country attend each conference, making it a great opportunity to share ideas and make new connections. The 132nd Annual Conference was held in Wellington at the Duxton Hotel, 170 Wakefield Street, Wellington from 27th to 29th November, 2010. Drivers Challenge | United Fire Brigades' Association

The United Fire Brigades’ Association together with the Mid Canterbury Fire Brigades’ Sub Association regret to advise that this year’s National Drivers has been postponed until 2011 due to the current situation in Christchurch. The National Drivers Challenge takes place on an annual basis, with the location alternating between Ruapuna and Feilding. More than 50 brigade drivers from around the country are expected to compete this year.
