The Taupō Community ‘T’ Party & Bash starts at 1.00pm on the Tongariro North Domain and will include a schools mini Top Town competition, games, live music and food stalls.
From 3.00pm the Variety Bash convoy will drive in to Taupō via Lake Terrace and onto HeuHeu Street. They will be met by a pipe band to escort them through the middle of town onto the Tongariro Domain where they will join the fun, bringing a sausage sizzle, a Ronald McDonald Magic Show and finish with a water fight from the Variety Bash Fire Engines!
The Taupō Community ‘T’ Party & Bash 2012 is a chance to celebrate both the Variety Bash visiting Taupō as well as the Taupō community and its people. The party is being organised by Taupō District Council’s Community Engagement team, who are responsible for putting on the Our Neighbourhood summer series of community events.
Strategic Relationships Manager, Dylan Tahau, says this will be a fun event for families with children of all ages. “The Variety Bash is a Kiwi institution, so being at the end of the line for the tour is pretty cool. Variety is the Children’s Charity so we want to support the good work the Variety Bash does each year by joining in the celebration.”
Taupō is the final stop for the Varity Bash in its 1700km journey across the North Island from 10 to 17 March. The Variety Bash is a convoy of over 20 quirky pre-1976 cars, fire engines and other vehicles that will travel from Auckland to Wellington and back to Taupō, distributing more than $70,000 in grants to sick, disabled and disadvantaged Kiwi kids and raising fund along the way.
“The Bash is all about fun and excitement,” says Variety’s Fundraising and Events Manager, Jodi Preston-Thomas. “We want to support as many kids and local communities as we can. The Bash is about creating brighter futures for Kiwi kids.”
