Embryo Transfer | Equine Reproduction Services

Keywords: Mare, Embryo Transfer, Mare Owners

Embryo transfer offers mare owners the opportunity to “harvest” fertilised eggs from their top mare (donor) that is unable to carry a foal due to poor uterine condition (this does also reduce the chance of harvesting embryos) or being in competition; and inseminating into a mare (recipient) that has been fully synchronised in her oestrus cycle. This usually involves have up to 3 or 4 mares on hand for each donor mare. Or having the embryos frozen for future use.

With 40 mares on site during the breeding season, Syenz is not able to keep large numbers of recipient mares on hand typically required for embryo transfer as a matter of course. However we do have a limited number available and, on special request, we can make arrangements for this service.

Home | Equine Reproduction Services

We can teach your stallion to collect safely, teach you how to manage the collection process or we can do the collection for you if it is a “one-off” occurrence. There is certainly a growing interest these days in individual owners with a nice colt deciding to keep and compete them as a stallion in the years to come. You don’t need a big stud farm and acreage to cope with mares arriving at the gate. The backyard breeder has come of age.

Import and Export of Semen | Equine Reproduction Services

We are experienced with the details involved in MAF Inspection, Custom's Clearance, obtaining permits, International Health Certification, arranging air transport or freight forwarding, and inspection/inventory of imported genetics upon arrival. We have on offer already a number of international sires who have frozen semen on storage in NZ but if you have a particular sire you want that is not listed, we may be able to help.

Artificial Insemination | Equine Reproduction Services

Even with the best procedures in place the success of frozen semen is only 30-40% pregnancy rate per cycle and will vary based on both the mare and the semen used and the operator performing the insemination. Following on from the work in managing the mares reproductive cycle, Syenz will organise for the shipment of semen and insemination of the mare at Longspring; or other location by special arrangement.

Supervised Foaling and Post Natal care | Equine Reproduction Services

In line with our foaling service, we can also provide round the clock care for a sick foal that may need regular injections, bandages changed, stomach tubing with milk, or re-hydration with fluids through intravenous drips. This is also important as throughout this time the mare is exposed to the natural pathogens in the local environment and develops immunity that is passed on to the foal through the mares colostrum.
