Cool, bright clinical lighting is crucial within the operating theatre environment. Starkstrom is the official distributor for KLS Martin operating lights within the UK and has many years of experience successfully designing, installing and maintaining clinical light systems in a variety of environments:

• New build (inc PFI)

• Theatre refurbishments

• Operating Light replacement projects

• Integrated within UCV canopies

• Low (and very low) ceiling heights

• Integrated theatres

• Modular theatres

• Treatment rooms

• Mobile operating lights (for ITU or other areas)

Boasting a full range of lighting for all clinical needs, KLS Martin lights are amongst the most technically advanced lights available and work on the philosophy of delivering the maximum level of lux at the coolest temperature possible.

The marLED® lights (utilising LED technology) provide a unique way to illuminate the procedure area and also allow colour index manipulation. For more information on the award winning marLED® lights, please download the relevant product brochure.

The marLux® range of operating lights have taken the level of technology even further and have created a light beam with supreme deep cavity penetration – centriXbeam®. This allows one single light head to provide a wide light field during standard surgery, then at the press of a button change to a narrow focused beam for deep cavity work.

The marLux® range of clinical lights is available in either a halogen bulb (H Series) or in a brighter (yet cooler) gas discharge bulb (X Series).

Results of a recent study have highlighted the importance of the mechanical performance of the system in terms of the support structures, mountings, clearances and adjustability which is often overlooked, but can cause a high number of user complaints when not ideally designed. To address this, our engineers prepare detailed drawings showing the maximum height clearances and working envelope of the proposed light system for every project to ensure the user expectations are fully met.

We regularly have ex demonstration theatre lights available at a considerable discount. Please contact us for further information

Battery Backup

Under general power failure scenarios, the continuity of light in the surgical field is the most important factor for patient safety. Without it, the surgical team cannot continue operating or even work towards successful “patient closure”.

A 24V DC battery backup system forms part of the emergency supply to modern operating lights. Under current HTM standards, a separate 3-hour autonomy system is required for each and every operating theatre.

Starkstrom can provide you with whatever rating (in watts) of battery backup systems you might require for whatever kind of operating lights you are installing. Our battery backup systems are fitted with a range of alarms and a remote test facility (usually connected to the theatre control panel) and an under-voltage disconnect relay to prevent non-recoverable discharge of the batteries.

Operating Tables » Starkstrom

Full Electro-Hydraulic Control of All Major Movements (Height, Trendelenburg, Back Section, Leg Section, Lateral Tilt, Longitudinal Traverse and Power Drive) makes the Scandia easy and safe to configure and use. The Scandia has a Maximum Patient Weight Capacity of 350Kg which makes it ideal for bariatric surgery especially when used in conjunction with our table width extenders and heavy duty accessories.

Clinical Pendants » Starkstrom

For the most challenging and complex medical infrastructure projects, our range of expertly designed, precision engineered and modular pendant systems allows an almost infinite configuration of outlets, equipment, devices and accessories to be specified, flexibly combining.

Audio Visual » Starkstrom

The solution can include operating lights with integrated cameras, flat screen monitors either ceiling suspended in combination with the operating lights or wall mounted, a room camera, 2-way audio communication between operating theatre and lecture facility, archiving capability and projection equipment.

PACS » Starkstrom

Starkstrom realises that not all hospitals have the ability to place a wPACS in their theatre and have thus developed alternative methods with which to view PACS in the theatre. With PACS systems being rolled out across hospitals in the UK, there is now the need for yet another piece of equipment to be placed in the operating theatre.

Ultra Clean Canopy » Starkstrom

By bathing the patient in sterile HEPA filtered air, a UCV canopy, when utilised as part of a well maintained HVAC system will ensure that air in the “clean zone” contains less than 10 CFU/m3. As part of an integrated and complete package of operating room infrastructure, Starkstrom is able to offer UCV canopies from the two leading manufacturers in the UK.
