Recycled timber is becoming more and more popular among homeowners who are looking for that distinctive look for their homes. As well as providing your building with character, using recycled timber also gives you a sense of satisfaction knowing you are contributing to saving the environment.

Recycled timber from Southern Demolition and Salvage Ltd has minimal environmental impact as it is from a sustainable source. Southern Demolition recycles their timber from demolished houses, old buildings and sheds, factories, warehouses, wharves and boats some of it is over 100 years old.

The relative scarcity of recycled timber as well as its desirability due to its instant character has made it a unique and much sort after product. The timber undergoes scanning and has all nails removed before its re-milled and refinished.

Rerun T&G flooring is made from remilled salvaged timbers. It can also be salvaged from existing flooring which to some customers is exactly what they want. From an environmental perspective the use of existing timber flooring saves materials from being dumped into landfill and does not impact on New Zealand's living trees.

Very often the reused wood flooring comes from trees that are no longer present to harvest, or have ingrained patterns only found in rare old large trees. This adds to the aesthetic quality of this type of flooring. Southern Demolition can supply you both of these types.

Concrete Crushing

Concrete crushing has become a major recycling effort by Southern Demolition and has reduced the cost to the consumer for having demolition work done as the concrete can be crushed and remain on site for future use by the client.

Southern Demolition has a mobile crusher that is able to undertake crushing contracts nationwide and has a very low set up time and cost.

Much of the waste products produced from the demolition process that goes to transfer stations in volumes includes: broken bricks, concrete, tiles and rubble. Much of this product no longer has to be taken to the landfill as we have a structure in place to recycle this material and return it to the market place as a useable product.

The crushed concrete can be produced to different grades. Our site is efficient, user friendly and has minimal impact on the surrounding area.

Some of the major contracts where the concrete has been used and left on site for future reuse within Christchurch include the old PDL Site, Turners & Growers, Placemakers Blenheim Road and the warehouse site in Blenheim Road.

Our crushing equipment includes:

  • Mobile concrete crusher
  • Concrete crushing jaws
  • Concrete breaker
  • Crusher
  • Hydraulic crusher
  • Loading crusher
