Soma can take a roll of fabric and turn it into a packaged shop ready garment. We employ 38 staff and apart from a basic sewing plant of over-lockers and plain-sewers we have the following specialist plant for the production of top quality clothing:
- Elasticating (over-locking and flat-locking)
- Heavy duty bar-tacking
- Flat Seaming
- Button-hole and button-sew
- Blind hemming
In addition, we have a full in-house tensionless laying up machine, garment cutting, a Gerber CAD systems for marker making and full examining, pressing and packing. This equipment is essential for the production of quality garments made from superfine and fine merino jersey.
At Soma, we also try to minimise our environmental footprint and recycle wherever we can packaging, paper, plastic and fabric off-cuts. Here in New Zealand 70% of our energy comes from renewable resources, giving our product and garments one of the lowest carbon footprints in the world.
