Next it was off to one of the oldest and most run down skateparks in Christchurch, Bishopdale skatepark. To amp things up a bit we brought in the Skate Skool mobile skatepark just to keep things interesting. With free gear hire available the place was swarming with beginners which kept the good guys on their toes for most the day.

The best trick comp put on a good show and Andy Brown popped down to grab a few pics.

Skate Skool will be running a Learn to Skateboard programme at Bishopdale park starting Tuesday 8th November, for more info or to register follow this link. This event was proudly supported by the Fendalton/Waimairi community board of the Christchurch City Council. Thanks also to Cheapskates and Skullcandy for hooking up the prizes!

So we rolled on out to Sumner for another skate jam a few weeks back. It was a scorcher of a day and everyone was stoked to see us back again.

A crowd of around 80 people rolled around in the sun and gobbled down a mountain of free sausages put up by our friends at Hellers. Thanks to Sumner school for the use of the court and of course all the sponsors that made the event possible — Cheapskates, The Christchurch City Council, Sport Canterbury, SPARC and Skullcandy for some extra prizes. A special shout out also to Tim from FUSE for lending us the sound system and cranking tunes all day.

Here’s a few photos and the results from the comp. Check it!

It wasn’t the nicest day in Ashburton for a skate jam, but none-the-less a crowd of over 70 gathered to skate up a storm. The wind was cold and the sky was grey, but all up smiles were on dials.

Many took advantage of the free gear hire and had a go at skating with help from the Skate Skool instructors — a few scooter kids even put their scooters aside to get in on the action.

Thanks to Jan from Sport Mid-Canterbury for helping promote the event and the Ashburton District Council, SPARC, Cheapskates and Skullcandy for making it possible.

The first ever Papanui Skate Jam took place on Wednesday to the delight of over 100 school kids looking for something to do in the holidays. As per usual there were loads of keen beginners flailing around on skateboards and inline skates which were free to hire at the event. Plenty of kids enjoyed the opportunity to learn some basic tricks with the Skate Skool team and overall it was a great day in the sun.

Thanks to Helen from the Christchurch City Council for all the support, Cheapskates and Skullcandy for the prizes, Hellers for the free sausages and of course Noel Leeming for letting us use their carpark.

If you missed out on this one then our next event in Christchurch will be happening on the last Saturday of the school holidays at Sumner School, Be there!

The kids were killing it on Saturday at the 2011 Cheapskates Canterbury Skateboarding Regionals. 46 Competitors battled it out for automatic qualification into the Nationals later in the month as well as over $3000 worth of product up for grabs.

Skaters hailed from as far as Dunedin and even the West Coast to compete in this year’s event. Some amazing skateboarding took place and over 300 people came to enjoy the action.

With 22 competitors in the 13 & Unders, it was great to see that skateboarding has a bright future down here in the South. None could compare to the bag of tricks Cade Wilson-Russ brought over from the coast who ended up taking home top spot in this division. Dan Kelcher set the record for most tricks nailed in one minute as he blazed around the street course taking 2nd, and Daniel Bridgeman from Dunno’s killed it with cleanness taking 3rd.

The 16 & Unders put on a good show but it was PJ Wybrow from Dunedin who took 1st place with clean, consistent tricks all day long. A special shout out to Nick Butcher who qualified for the finals but wrecked himself on the rail — good luck with your surgery mate.

After this the Open Mens threw down some gnarly hammers throwing the judges into a heated debate. Fortunately for those entered James Kingston was out with a injury so last years 16 & under champ Jack ‘The Darganator’ Dargan deservedly took first place, followed by local Will Hobbs and ‘out of no where’ — Shaun Burgess the only skater from Ashburton took 3rd.

The Best trick competition threw the crowd into a frenzy with stunt after stunt on the rail, hubba and drop. 17 year old Temuka ripper, Billy McLachlan stepped up with a Bigspin flip followed by a Backside 180 Nose grind to seal the deal. Other amazing tricks worth a mention were Dargy’s nollie nose grind down the hubba and Sean’s kicky frontboard on the rail.

All up another epic regional skate comp. Cheers to those who travelled from out of town and big ups to the sponsors who made this event possible — Cheapskates, Vans, Thunder, Baker, Bones, Volcom and Skullcandy.

Well done to the Cheapies team skaters who placed — Jack Dargan, Dan Kelcher, Daniel Bridgman and also Hannah Kennedy who took first in the girls.

Andy Brown spent the entire day behind the lens, be sure to check out the photos below…

Chilling over in the corner I spotted Jayden Edmonds, recalled a few good lines and tricks up his sleeve from our Skate Jams, and hit him up for a shoot. To tell the truth I think it’s pretty distracting, I listen to some dub if I’m just cruising round.Tight or loose trucks. Nelson Creek old school shape with the only trucks and Flyns Bones SPFS.A good skateboarder’s diet should always include.

The event was originally planned to be held at Redcliffs School but due to never ending earthquakes damaging the cliff behind the school we were forced to find a new venue with only a few weeks out from the event. Free BBQ, Gear hire, Trick tips and Mobile skate park, but this time there’ll be fun bouncy stuff, challenge your mates to a Gladiator Duel, or get involved in Kiwi tag with some of the local league clubs.
