Fridges/Freezers: Defrost and clean before storing. Leave door ajar.
Washing Machines: Drain water from hoses and tape to back of machine. Mark hoses hot or cold, if not indicated.
Lounge Suites: These are best stored end up. Remove legs and cushions.
Tables: If the legs come off, take them off and store on its side. If you tape the screws to the legs, you won’t have to look for them later!
Glass/Paintings: These are best wrapped in bubble wrap.
China/Breakables: Wrap each item in newspapper and pack in a strong box or tea chest. Pack tightly with wadded newspaper. Mark the box FRAGILE. Store on top of something sturdy. Do not place anything on top of it.
Beds: Disassemble as much as possible (remembering to keep track of the screws, etc.) Water beds should be completely drained, and stored with the bungs up.
General: All boxes should be clearly marked, on both the top and the sides. Some people number each box so they know where something is if they need it. All large items should go into the unit first, at the back and around the sides. Fill all the drawers and cupboards of furniture items: but AFTER placing it in the unit, otherwise it may be too heavy to lift. Heavy items should be placed on the floor if possible; and lighter things on top of them. It is much easier to pack things in smallish boxes (especially books), which are lighter, easier to handle and fit in tighter places. Lawnmowers should be stored clean and flat. Do not tip them up, or the oil may leak out and damage your goods. Cover surfaces of tabels, cabinets, etc (you can use your blankets or towels).
