Insect pests such as bees and wasps are not council's responsibility and you will need to call a Pest Control contractor.

Stock in Urban Areas

Unless carefully controlled, the keeping of stock in the urban area can become a nuisance and be offensive to neighbours.

Special Requirements

Keeping pigs in the urban area is not permitted in the Waitaki district and there are special requirements for keeping poultry in these areas. A permit is also required for anyone wanting to keep beehives in urban areas.

Wandering Stock

Stock can be dangerous if left to wander on roads.

The Waitaki District Council will impound stock found on the road at any time of the day or night.

Who is Responsible

  • New Zealand Transport Authority is responsible for stock on state highways.

  • Stock trespassing on private land may be impounded by the land owner and delivered to the pound - which is administered by council

Services - Aquatic Centre

The Waitaki Aquatic Centre was opened January 1 2000 at one minute past midnight, making it the first Aquatic Centre nationwide to open in the new millenium. The Style and Stroke Swim School has grown remarkably over the last few years from over 200 children per term to over 800 per term. The Waitaki Aquatic Centre is a "Poolsafe Pool" which means we are a safe and well managed facility.
