Deer Eye Muscle Scanning » Stockscan New Zealand LTD

Stockscan is now scanning eye muscle in deer.

The same principles used in sheep scanning to achieve an eye muscle measurement, apply to deer.

Deer are scanned as weaners from late September until January. This is when their coats are at the optimum time as their hollow fibre is restrictive for ultrasound.

Two scanning operators are required for deer scanning. A small amount of fibre has to be clipped off the animals back during the process.

We supply pads that fit onto your existing crush.

In the past very little work has been done on deer confirmation using technology such as CT and ultrasound to provide Breeding Values fot this trait, but research is now being undertaken by AgResearch at Invermay, Mosgiel. They are using Stockscan for all their scanning.
