In addition to traditional GIS data, aerial photography and imagery that we have been supplying to our clients for more than 18 years, we are continually exploring new technologies and developing new tools and products to advance the quality of decision making by our clients.  The value and use of GIS data has increased significantly in recent years and there are many more people using this data thanks to advancements in technology

Aerial Surveys offers a wide range of aerial survey and mapping solutions that meet the needs of many different markets.  Our core products mainly consisting of orthorectified imagery and digital surface and terrain models are often used in the development of other associated products to benefit our clients in managing their businesses.  We deploy modern technologies including the latest in digital mapping cameras from Vexcel Imaging and LiDAR from Optech Incorporated.

We have applications for biosecurity, forestry, environmental mapping, contouring and topographical mapping and much more.

As a result of being in this industry for over 30 year we have developed a huge photographic library with images that can be supplied digitally or in large sized prints.  Under the Kyoto Protocol, New Zealand agreed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions back to 1990 levels by 2012 or pay for any excess.  This has lead to the implementation of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme and this historical data is now becoming more and more useful as clients seek to map their pre 1990 position for comparison to the current day for carbon credit evaluation.

Aerial Surveys previously owned the renowned historical Whites Aviation library consisting of over 1,000,000 negatives covering many different facets of early New Zealand.  This magnificent library is now housed in the National Library in Wellington.

If you have a need for a product or solution that has a spatial, geographic or location aspect, we would like to be of assistance.

Solutions | Aerial Surveys

There are so many applications that can benefit from geospatial components and there is a popular misconception that this is a very expensive industry requiring highly skilled and expensive specialists. Aerial photography, remote sensing, mapping as well as our Points of Interest databases allow you to use disparate systems and databases to come up with quality information.

LiDAR/ALS | Aerial Surveys

This data is referred to as intensity data and when greyscale readings are applied to the measurements, an intensity image is created, effectively delivering a medium resolution black and white ortho image. Depending upon the area of interest, size, shape and type of terrain, the parameters within the LiDAR system (pulse rate, swath width and scan angle) are set to achieve the best solution for each project.

Forest Health & Biosecurity | Aerial Surveys

Where insect infestation has occurred and a specific host species of tree is identified, Aerial Surveys technology can rapidly locate and map where the host trees are. Every year forest owners lose value from their forest asset through poor tree health and the effects of disease or pest infestation. Knowing the extent of disease or infestation in a forest allows the forest manager to accurately target sprays and other treatments.

Forest Mapping | Aerial Surveys

This information allows planners, planting contractors, road constructors and harvesters to plan activities appropriate for the terrain, highlighting ridge lines, watercourses, slope and aspect, and other topographical features. Accurate stand boundaries will reflect the gross area in contention, but the productivity is determined by the proportion of that stand that is growing trees – the net stocked area.
