Activities Programme - Hikurangi has a comprehensive activities programme for Residents and encourages them to participate. Our Diversional Therapists facilitate the daily activities of individual Residents in consultation with them, their relatives and staff. Hikurangi actively promotes a Quality of Life programme.
The activities programme is also open to the elderly in the community. This operates Monday to Friday each week offering people from the community the opportunity of coming to Hikurangi and sharing in the activities of the Home and enjoying a home cooked hot midday meal.
The Home has a van that is used to take Residents on outings and shopping trips.
Residents are also encouraged to continue with any activities that they have previously participated in such as Church activities, bowls etc.
Recuperation - We can also provide recuperative care for elderly people recovering from surgery or illness when they don’t feel that they are quite ready to go home.
Chapel - Hikurangi is proud of its Chapel and the relationship we have with the local clergy. Services are held weekly on a roster basis, with visiting clergy and all services are interdenominational. Visits from clergy to individual Residents can also be arranged.
Home Cooked Meals - We provide nutritious, well-balanced home cooked meals to meet the needs of the Residents. We can cater for Residents who have special dietary requirements and also any particular food likes or dislikes. We provide breakfast, lunch, tea and supper, along with morning and afternoon tea.
Most Residents have their meals in the Dining Room and we promote meal times as an occasion for sharing. Breakfast trays can be arranged for those Residents who would like breakfast in their bedroom. Snacks and hot / cold drinks are available to any Resident at any time throughout the day or night.
Family and friends are welcome to join with Residents in a meal for a small fee at any time.

The salon is open Monday to Friday 9:00am – 12:00 noon.Call Bell System - Hikurangi has a call bell system for Residents to use if they need any assistance. Every bedroom, bathroom, toilet and lounge area has a call bell. The call bell continues to ring until it is answered by a staff member.
Laundry - A full laundry service is provided for Residents in the Home. Clothes are required to be named so they can be easily identified. We have a supplier who provides named labels that can be ironed on (and stay on) within 48 hours of the request.
Home Doctor - Hikurangi has its own Home Doctor. Residents can change to the Home Doctor or remain under the care of their own GP. The advantage of being under the Home Doctor is the Resident does not have to go out of the Home to see their GP.
Local Newspaper - Hikurangi gets two newspapers delivered each day. These are kept in the Day Room and are for the use of all Residents. As part of the activities programme news from the paper is read each morning at 9.15am. for those Residents who have difficulty reading the paper themselves. Residents may purchase their own newspaper if they wish.
