The Categories

The categories for the both the Residential and Commercial Projects Awards are as follows and apply to properties completed within two years of the closing date of the competition:


PlaceMakers Renovation Awards

Open to all residential renovations and restorations 

  1. Up to $250,000
  2. $250,000 - $500,000
  3. Over $500,000

New Homes Awards

Open to all new homes.

  1. Deparmtment of Building and Housing Under $250,000
  2. $250,000 - $350,000
  3. $350,000 - $450,000
  4. $450,000 - $600,000
  5. $600,000 - $1 Million
  6. $1 Million - $2 Million
  7. Over 2 Million

Nulook Builder’s Own Home Award

Open to all renovations and new homes build by the builder for the builder.

James Hardie Show Home Award

An award for all show and spec homes that meet the criteria for number of days and months open to the public.

Sustainable Awards

Open to new homes and renovations with inclusion of special elements with regard to the property’s sustainability including air quality, waste and energy management and building practices

  1. Under $500,000
  2. $500,000 - $1 Million
  3. Over $1 Million

Life Style Awards*

All residential entrants are automatically considered for these awards.

  1. Gib Living – for excellence in interiors
  2. Outdoor Living – best integration of indoor outdoor living
  3. PlaceMakers Heart of the Home Kitchen – best meets the needs of it owners
  4. Pink Batts Ultra Energy Efficiency – demonstrates significant consideration given to energy efficiency in the design stage
  5. PlaceMakers Bathroom Excellence – best meets the needs of its owners

 *     Some of the local events also have an additional lifestyle unique to them.

 Note: all categories with a price bracket are inclusive of GST.


Retail and Business Project

For projects with a retail, business or office function that have been built, renovated or restored.  For example: supermarkets, shopping centres, office blocks, commercial fit-outs, call centres etc

Health Project

For projects which provide a health or wellbeing role in the community and could include hospitals, vet clinics, rest-homes, GP’s offices, community health facilities and specialist clinics etc.

Education Project

This category includes all educational institutions from pre-school through to tertiary and private facilities.  Also included in this category is any construction within the boundary of an institution e.g. a school gymnasium or university library etc.

Industrial Infrastructure Project

For projects with a manufacturing, industrial, utility or infrastructure function.  For example a warehouse, prison, storage facility, factory, bridge etc.

Tourism and Leisure Project

Open to projects which are designed for use by the public for recreation and leisure e.g. managed apartments, hotels, sporting facilities, motels, casinos, aquatic centres and entertainment facilities.
