Withholding Period Reduced
Protectorhml at 2% for Botrytis Control:
Protectorhml at 0.5% for adjuvant use (BioGro certified):
Protectorhml is a liquid containing specific complexes of potassium soaps. Collectively, these soaps are also known as ‘soft’ soaps, or potassium salts of fatty acids. All ingredients involved in its manufacture are food or food grade.
Protectorhml is fully registered by New Zealand Food Safety Authority (ACVM) – registered number P7149. Its use is as a fungicide for botrytis control on wine grapes, and as an adjuvant to assist with other fungicides in their activity on grapes and other crops.
A good example of adjuvant use would be the combination with sulphur for powdery mildew control on wine grapes or apples.
Use of Protectorhml with other ‘soft’ products to enhance overall efficacy is a key focus for further research.
Protectorhml is BioGro™ approved for use as an adjuvant with other BioGro™ approved fungicides and insecticides – licence number 5079.
Why the Reduction in the Withholding Period?
The withholding period for Protectorhml is voluntary and has nothing to with MRLs.
Incremental manufacturing improvements now ensures that Protectorhml is virtually free of vegetable oils. Free vegetable oils can create an off flavour like mouldy sacking and that was the reason for voluntary withholding period.
The voluntary withholding period is now reduced to 3 days for a 2% Protectorhml application and 1 day for when used as an adjuvant at 0.5% for which it is BioGro registered.
These withholding periods remain conservative.
This change applies to all Protectorhml with a manufacturing date of 22 September 2010 or later.
Further reductions may apply following micro vinification studies this season.
