Australasia’s biggest jewellery buying group, Heard's Jewellers, is thrilled to announce an exclusive coup - a superb new diamond cut from the world's most famous diamond cutter !
Mr Tolkowsky turned to the ocean for inspiration for his latest triumph - the Sea Shell Collection™. And just as every shell is unique, so too are his Sea Shell Diamonds. Featured mainly in rings and pendants, the cut has already proved immensely popular in Japan, Germany, Hawaii the UK and Middle East.
"Ever since humans first graced the Earth we have been adorning ourselves with sea shells - a practice that continues today. I sought to pay homage to that tradition with my Sea Shell Collection™," says Gabi Tolkowsky.
After carefully analysing the properties of a rough diamond crystal, Mr Tolkowsky begins the painstaking work of determining the shape and number of facets that will ensure maximum reflection of light and colour.
"With my Sea Shell Diamonds I tend to use longer, flatter pieces of rough diamond that would normally be cut in half when creating the more traditional diamond cuts. This means that the final product looks 30 to 40% bigger than its actual carat weight so customers are not only buying a unique diamond cut, but they're also getting better value for money," says Gabi Tolkowsky.
When people shop for diamonds, they often consider the four Cs - cut, colour, clarity and carat. When buying a Gabi Tolkowsky diamond a fifth C should be taken into account - craftsmanship as it can take up to four days to cut and polish a one carat diamond masterpiece.
Another unique chapter to the Sea Shell Diamond story is the unique gemprint of each diamond. Just as humans have unique DNA, so to does each diamond. The gemprint of each Sea Shell Diamond is plotted on a computer which then creates a melody that reflects that diamond's individual make-up. A copy of that melody is given to the gem's new owner along with a poem written by Gabi Tolkowsky.
The Sea Shell Diamond Collection™ will be available exclusively through Heard's Jewellers and 500 member stores across Australia and New Zealand.
