Oct. 4, 2010 (MOLINE, IL) — The latest participant in the international rental exchange program has traveled from Australia to Canada, beginning his time abroad learning and developing his leadership skills.

Matt Gordon of Centenary Hire, Darra, Queensland, Australia, will be learning more about Nor-Val Rentals in Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada, throughout the next month, as well as sharing business practices that he has learned. Gordon also will attend the American Rental Association (ARA) Leadership Conference in Chicago in mid-October to meet local, state and provincial leaders involved with ARA and the Canadian Rental Association (CRA), plus ARA’s board of directors.

The international exchange program is administered by the ARA Foundation for the Global Rental Alliance and provides young rental professionals the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. The participants are able to experience how the rental equipment business functions in countries and operations other than their own. Overall, the program encourages international travel and cultural and business sharing of information.

In mid-October, Brittany Haas of Crown Rental Co., Rosemount, Minn., will travel to Camden, New South Wales, Australia, to visit Camden Hire. Haas’s exchange will run through mid-November.

Since the international rental exchange program began in November 2008, three successful exchanges have been completed.

Associations involved in the Global Rental Alliance are: ARA, CRA, DLR (France), European Rental Association, Hire Association Europe, Hire Industry Association of New Zealand and Hire and Rental Industry Association (Australia).

2010 International Program - Brittany Haas

It's amazing to see how some things would change once we arrived, how adjustments were made and why communication is so important. It was great to see how his store was laid out and then to see one of the job sites that his store was working on. Sunday we had lunch with Phil Newby, HRIA CEO, and his wife along with Neil Wallis and his wife. I was able to go on a few deliveries and observe how Camden Hire’s process works on the road.

International Leadership Program

Finally big thanks to the ARA Foundation for facilitating this program, for the foresight and funding of the Global Rental Alliance to see the benefit in such a program and to Jim and Shelli Clipperton of Nor-Val Rentals and Nor-Val Event Rentals for opening their businesses, their home and their pantry to me.
