About Dankerins Photography
Dan Kerins is photographer, writer and horticulturalist specialising in ill-planned and under-funded excursions into the lesser known. His eclectic body of work has featured in exhibitions in the UK,New Zealand and New York has been published online and in hard print. “If you a see a tea pot on a table it’s a tea pot. If you see a tea pot on a plinth in an art gallery it’s a ceramic art installation. For me that’s how photography works; the teapot is the world and the plinth is the four straight edges that the camera puts around it. How and what a photographer chooses to put in-between those four edges is no small calculation. There is no right or wrong to it, although each image does have a resonance. And that resonance can be a powerful thing- it can take you somewhere, it can prove a thing and disprove another, it can tell story, it can capture an abstract glimmer of life, it can inform and it can confuse, it can be honest and it can lie. It can horrify and it can inspire awe-What a thing to do with your day.” Learning on a array of dog eared and sub-adequate film and later digital cameras dan has developed an unashamedly unglamorous and off beat style, one that aims to intrigue the viewer to consider the teapot a little more closely. Dan has spent most of his life out of the house, a curiosity for most things meant that his home town couldn’t hold him for long so he to go and see the world; turns out it’s a lot bigger than first expected. During his travels dan became particularly taken by the relationships between people and plants, an interest that saw him go on to obtain a degree in horticulture and work with several leading organisations both in the UK and Overseas. It is an interest that continues to this day and plays an important role in his daily life, photography and written work. He is unfortunately badly addicted to surfing a terrible affliction that he struggles with daily (normally before the onshore wind arrives) currently in re-hab in Kaikoura on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island, which is a bit like like trying to give up beer in a brewery. Able the photograph, write and design Dan is regularly commissioned buy a surprising array of clients, always looking for the next interesting shot or story and really keen to collaborate with others. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions, commissions or a bright idea that everyone else will think is crazy. Email: email@example.com
