“A FIRST FOR NEW ZEALAND FENCING
Friday 2 November 2007
Tararua fencing contractor Andrew Cave of Tararua Contract Fencing Ltd has become New Zealand’s first Registered Fencing Contractor.
“This is a significant achievement” said Wayne Newdick, the Fencing Contractors Association of New Zealand Chairman “this puts Andrew on a similar footing to other professional trades and tradesmen and this first registration certainly lifts the standard and profile of fencing in New Zealand. As an association we are really excited about this registration.”
After completing NZQA level three certificate in fencing earlier this year, Mr Cave submitted an application to the Fencing Contractors Association of New Zealand to become a fully registered fencer.
This application which has a strong focus not only on the quality of Mr Cave’s fencing, also focused on ensuring his business meet key benchmarks and involved reference checking with his clients, health and safety practices and good adherence to employment laws for his staff.
“To be honest it wasn’t too many hoops to jump through.” Mr Cave said “It was very straight forward and while we had to change some practices to come up to speed with current thinking it has certainly resulted in my being a better fencer and my business being run smarter”.
Local recognition has also been well received with many of Mr Cave’s customers being very positive in their feedback and pleased to see this increased level of professionalism in the fencing industry.”
