Concept began manufacturing in New Zealand over 30 years ago, and whilst the crew has been updated over the years the demand for quality innovative product has remained. What began as incandescent lamps and metalware has evolved into T5 lamps, high efficiency reflectors, aluminium profiles and custom creations.

The logo on the previous page belongs to our manufacturing division and was introduced to reflect the way our mission statement influences the products we manufacture. No other product demonstrates this better than the eWood family of suspended luminaires manufactured from sustainably grown plywood and equipped with either our best fluorescent or LED modules.

Our range of aluminium profiles are a mixture of Concept designed and those from designs of BPS Leuchten System who are based in Blomberg, Germany.

BPS are also the source of the high quality optics and suspension components used throughout the Concept range. All of our profi les are extruded in New Zealand and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure the best possible design minimising material usage, assembly times and ensuring maximum flexibility.

Not only do we use aluminium in our manufacturing we have ranges of recessed linear fluorescents made from New Zealand steel and available with a choice of very high efficiency optics. Many of these can be customised or used as a base for unique products for a specific project. Our metalware fabricators are experts at achieving our strict requirements.

All of our products undergo extensive testing not only electrically but also in our temperature controlled test booth ensuring all the requirements of the AS/NZS60598 series and AS/NZS61347.2.11:2003 standards are complied with. Additionally, to meet our expectations of long product service life we have strict tolerances on control gear operating temperatures in our products and assure operation at least 10% under manufacturers’ recommendations.

We have locally manufactured the predominant product on many key projects recently such as; Manukau City Council Civic Centre - complete building refurbishment; Franklin the Centre - library, conference centre and exhibition space; Archives New Zealand Auckland - repository offices; North Shore Hospital - corridor upgrades; Wellington Town Hall - recreation heritage pendants and Auckland Museum - cenotaph and entry stairs.

Photometric testing is performed on appropriate luminaires by accredited facilities such as Light Lab in Australia. Additionally BPS and OMS all have their own test facilities allowing us to work in collaboration with them and use proven optics in a newly created luminaire body to suit the project.

However truly sustainable design is about more than just having luminaires with high Light Output Ratio’s, ensuring it can be recycled once its useful life is over; minimising or eliminating VOC’s and PVC wiring, it is also about the correct illumination of the space. The creation of pleasant environments fit for the intended tasks must use more measures than just W/m/100lux on the working plane in order to provide wellbeing; we must aim wherever possible to represent light as it appears in nature, especially where no natural light is available.

The goal is to balance the illuminance ratios, colour temperatures and illumination levels to suit the tasks nature and to deliver the best possible power density through the selection of luminaire and control systems. As we are the designers and manufacturers of many of our top performing luminaires our preference is to work closely with you on these types of projects to ensure the maximum potential is realised.

We then assess the output results against the requirements of the brief, and check compliance with the appropriate New Zealand standards for illumination levels, uniformity, glare, illuminance ratios and power density.
