Workstation Safety Plus is the world’s most widely used DSE assessment and self-assessment software. It saves time and money and it really works. Workstation Safety Plus is so effective it has been used as the DSE risk assessment system of choice by many of the world’s largest companies, central government departments, unions and public sector organisations to help them meet DSE regulations.

Our engaging e-learning DSE assessments provide your employees with:

  • Customisable ergonomic assessment content that can be changed to meet your requirements.
  • Multiple language options.
  • NEW! DSE risk assessment training that adapts to the needs of each employee.
  • Engaging interactive sequences that help improve the educational process.

Workstation Safety Plus uses a four-step approach to reducing your risk and compliance with DSE regulations.

Step 1 DSE e-learning.

30-40 minutes of e-learning encourages your employees to make adjustments to their DSE workstation as they take part. All DSE assessment training is customisable to meet the exact needs of your company.

Step 2 DSE self-assessment.

Employees conducting their own DSE assessment are given immediate feedback and advice. This helps them to manage their DSE risk further. Video-based stretching exercises and other modules encourage longer-term behaviour change.

Step 3 Automated communication.

Automated communication ensures your DSE risk assessment programme becomes proactive and encourages employees to engage.

Step 4 DSE management.

  • Search training and DSE risk assessment records easily.
  • Easily prioritise employees who need intervention.
  • Assign tasks and ensure actions are being followed up.
  • Generate comprehensive ergonomic assessment reports.
  • Generate charts and sophisticated statistical reports to support compliance with DSE regulations.

Save money, time and effort using Workstation Safety Plus for effective DSE risk assessments.

Full DSE risk assessment and ergonomic assessment managed services are very popular with companies who want Cardinus to provide a holistic approach to ergonomic risk management. Starting with our efficient and effective e-learning services, additional levels of care are introduced as required and each service can be purchased individually.

DSE assessment e-learning

To manage your training and self-assessment obligations under the display screen equipment, or DSE, regulations Cardinus uses its award-winning DSE assessment software Workstation Safety Plus.

Endorsed by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management, Workstation Safety Plus is the world’s most widely used DSE risk assessment software and is guaranteed to deliver measurable results.

Self-help features

Workstation Safety Plus specialises in empowering your employees to take ownership of their DSE risk assessments and mitigate risk where possible. Feedback, communications and additional self-help modules will significantly improve the buy-in from your employees.

Telephonic intervention

Some employees will not be able to manage their risk by themselves. Nevertheless the risk may not justify a consultant visiting. After many years spent fine-tuning a DSE telephonic intervention process that delivers incredible results, Cardinus will mitigate much of your risk at a fraction of the cost of on-site intervention.

On-site intervention

Occasionally telephonic intervention will not work and an on-site visit will be required. Cardinus has a UK-wide team of assessors properly qualified in DSE risk assessments and have many years of ergonomic assessment experience.

Full reports are provided for your employee, HR functions and any other party involved in your DSE assessment programme.

DSE triage and case management

Although most DSE risk will be dealt with using the process above, we will occasionally identify an employee with an injury that needs specialist assessment. Our DSE triage service offers a clinical assessment that is undertaken by a physiotherapist or physical therapist. We can also provide full case management services to support your employees through a speedy recovery.

By using the above process, Cardinus is able to mitigate your DSE risk at the earliest (and therefore cheapest) opportunity. Your employees feel their health and well-being is properly invested in.

Contact Cardinus today to discuss your requirements and find out how we can help improve your DSE risk assessment programme.

PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SESSIONS AVAILABLE

Cardinus DSE Assessor training courses offer an introduction to ergonomic assessment principles and their relation to the use of display screen equipment (DSE).

This course is specifically aimed at ‘would-be’ DSE assessors who have direct responsibility for reducing risks associated with display screen equipment and seeking compliance with DSE regulations.

Musculoskeletal injuries and additional health issues are a major cause of long-term injuries and sickness absence. These can cause significant costs for an organisation in terms of compensation claims, reductions in efficiency and potential enforcement action. Employers have a duty to ensure that such risks have been identified and evaluated and that suitable controls are in place to reduce the risks.

An effective way to combat these problems is to have an in-house DSE assessment resource – an employee who is trained to conduct DSE assessments, DSE risk assessments, ergonomic assessments and monitor compliance with DSE regulations.

Objectives

On completion of the course delegates will have

  • Examined the impact of ergonomics on the workplace.
  • Discussed the implementation of the DSE regulations (1992).
  • Evaluated hazards and risks related to workstation use.
  • Walked through the stages of a DSE risk assessment.
  • Developed a process and checklist for carrying out a DSE risk assessment.
  • Carried out a DSE assessment at a user’s workstation.
  • Reviewed feedback and learned from practical DSE assessment.
  • Created a personal action plan for carrying out DSE assessments.

Topics Covered

  • Ill-health and injury resulting from DSE use.
  • How these conditions can arise.
  • Identifying risks resulting from task organisation.
  • Identifying risks arising from DSE equipment.
  • Identifying risks arising from the furniture.
  • Identifying risks arising from the workplace environment.
  • Administrative and physical control measures.
  • Requirements for eyesight testing.
  • Information, instruction and training of DSE users.

Duration

This is a one-day course in DSE assessment for would-be DSE assessors.

The key to successful safety leadership is influence, not authority. While many safety practitioners are able to influence managers, there are few who are able to assert the same level of influence over senior executives. For this reason, many safety initiatives fail to secure funding so organisations continue to face exposure to enforcement notices, fines and even prosecution.

Laboratory Ergonomics Plus is an e-learning ergonomics course designed especially for managing ergonomic risks in a laboratory environment.

The application of ergonomics to laboratory work presents a set of specific issues as a result of the type of equipment used and the organisation of work in a laboratory. The use of equipment by laboratory workers is very different to the use of computer equipment by office workers or the manufacturing processes used by production workers.

Although laboratory workers use traditional machines and conventional office equipment as well as specialist equipment, the range of issues that are presented extend beyond the scope of a display screen equipment assessor.

The main ergonomic hazards in the laboratory include poor posture (reaching, twisting stooping); repetitive work with few, if any changes of activity (pipettes can be used repetitively for long periods); manual handling and poor adjustment of equipment to the user (microscopes and biosafety cabinets are typical examples).

In one laboratory-type environment, where changes were made to the work flow to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, Cardinus consultants found evidence that the training paid for itself in less than three months through an increase in productive hours and reduced work in progress, as well as resulting in a reduced risk of injury and absence from injury and illness.

Our engaging e-learning laboratory ergonomic assessments provide your employees with:

  • Customisable ergonomic assessment content that can be changed to meet your requirements.
  • Multiple language options.
  • Laboratory ergonomic risk assessment training that adapts to the needs of each employee.
  • Engaging interactive sequences that help improve the educational process.

Laboratory Ergonomics Plus uses a four-step approach to reduce workplace risk and support compliance with health and safety regulations:

Step 1 Laboratory ergonomics e-learning

30-40 minutes of e-learning encourages your employees to make adjustments to their workstations and equipment as they take part. All laboratory ergonomics assessment training is customisable to meet the exact needs of your company.

Step 2 Laboratory ergonomics self-assessment

Employees conducting their own laboratory ergonomics assessment are given immediate feedback and advice. This helps them to manage their ergonomic risk further. Video-based stretching exercises and other modules encourage longer-term behaviour change.

Step 3 Automated communication

Automated communication ensures your laboratory ergonomic risk assessment programme becomes proactive and encourages employees to engage.

Step 4 Laboratory ergonomics management

Your ergonomics team can use the powerful Cardinus management module, PACE, to resolve any residual risk. This ensures intervention is targeted, appropriate and result-driven. PACE also allows you to:

  • Search training and risk assessment records easily.
  • Easily prioritise employees who need intervention.
  • Assign tasks and ensure actions are being followed up.
  • Generate comprehensive ergonomic assessment reports.
  • Generate charts and sophisticated statistical reports to support compliance with health and safety regulations.
