Boundary Joists and Rimboards

All rimboards and boundary joists are available as Engineered Wood Products to ensure timber shrinkage rates are similar for all members to avoid uneven loadings.

Lumberworx adopts NZS3604:2011 for parallel boundary joists under load-bearing walls in its floor designs.  A double 45mm LVL joist is specified under all load-bearing external walls and a single 45mm joist under non load-bearing boundaries (such as at stairwells).

This standard avoids asymmetric loadings onto perimeter I-Beams after wind or seismic action, and means the builder does not have to fit web stiffeners to I-Beams after upper floor frames have been put in place.

The same standard is adopted for

to the heads of joists and 25mm minimum thickness is recommended.

Web Stiffeners & Packers

Lumberworx can supply 25 and 39mm blocks for its 65 and 90mm series I-Beams.

These can be used as:

  • web stiffeners under concentrated loads
  • packers to facilitate fixing of other members to Lumberworx I-Beams

OR these can be field cut. Web stiffeners to support the I-Beam web under concentrated loads or for use with partial joist hangers can be a minimum of 21mm thickness.

Lumberworx can supply hardware for fixing of I-Beam and LVL joists and rafters.

It is recommended that an engineer be consulted to ensure fixings are specified for the applicable conditions, alternatively consult the manufacturers’ literature.

Products | Lumberworx

In a category where there was once only plywood, there are many engineered wood products, including structural wood panels, composite panels, laminated veneer lumber and prefabricated wood I-joists. Builders and consumers have adopted EWPs throughout North America and Europe and New Zealand is now embracing this trend. New ways to apply technology result in increasingly superior usability.

I-Beams | Lumberworx

They offer designers more flexibility with longer spans and the ability to cut service holes in the webs and builders favour the light weight and quicker installation time. 65 Series I-Beams are a unique combination of timber components and advanced technology forming a structurally superior solution for construction. Lumberworx I-Beams must be installed in accordance with Lumberworx technical literature.

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) | Lumberworx

Lower depth members can be used where depth is critical for floor joists and rafters and full depth members can be used in the same project as 45mm LVL to achieve longer spans where required. 63mm LVL is suited to commercial applications such as rafters, roof beams, floor joists and bearers, and in commercial timber framed buildings. Suitable l for a wide range of uses, it is available in E11 and E13 grades.

Truss & Frame | Lumberworx

The structural uniformity of LVL makes it the perfect solution for predictable, strong and lightweight truss chords. E11 represents the standard grade for LVL truss chord and is included in Mitek and Pryda fabricating software. It is the preferred option for attic and coved trusses.
