The Mon Desir apartment development overlooking Takapuna beach consists of five separate apartment blocks, four of which required recladding. The existing structure is of concrete floors, columns and beams with timber infill framing and “Harditex” cladding.
Brosnan Construction was awarded the 20-unit, $1.2M, recladding of “Block D” in December 2010. Work commenced on 10 January 2011 when the Brosnan team commenced erection of the scaffold and the removal of the existing cementitious cladding.
The challenges in this project involve maintaining the safety and comfort of a largely elderly group of occupants while the work is carried out. In addition the first building reclad in this development took a long time, bankrupting the contractor and leaving us with an understandably apprehensive client entering into a construction contract.
The work is currently on programme for completion in early September, despite a number of delays outside of our control.
