There is no doubt the YMCA Tauranga makes a difference to the lives of hundreds of people every day.

After School Care (ASC)

On any given school day, approximately 140 kids are picked up from 25 schools and brought to one of eight YMCA Tauranga After School Care centres.

There they are provided with a lively and varied schedule of activities and experiences that take into account different ages, interests, developmental levels and special needs.  We plan each week with a specific theme e.g. space week, and provide a nutritious afternoon snack (no white bread or fizzy drinks for our kids!).

Before School Care (BSC)

The YMCA is there for you from 7am in the morning.

We will provide your children with a healthy and filling breakfast of cereals, toast, fruit and every now and then a special breakfast treat!
Our great staff will help your children with that unfinished homework, engage them in heaps of fun activities and get your children to school on time.

Holiday Programmes (HP)

Even when school is out, there is no rest for the YMCA Tauranga.

Under the watchful eyes of our highly trained and caring staff, hundreds of children aged 5 to 13 get to gain confidence, foster friendships and learn new skills, all while having fun!

Kids' Programmes

OSCAR isn’t our only programme for kids! In addition to running our After School Care and Holiday Programmes, we operate a Junior Touch Rugby Module.

Junior Touch Rugby

Each year the YMCA Tauranga hosts a Junior Touch Rugby module. Up to 45 teams from around the region play in the twelve-week competition in Term 4, which includes divisions for children aged five and six all the way up to college students. Affiliated with Touch New Zealand, the league provides players the opportunity to represent the Bay of Plenty in regional competitions and even to represent their country!

Please Note: Due to insufficient numbers, we have cancelled all remaining preschool gymnastics classes for the remainder of 2011. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Youth 4 Youth

The YMCA Tauranga is very proud to have recently started Youth 4 Youth, a new, free programme designed to help youth aged 14 to 17 develop life skills, set and achieve goals, and build a sense of community spirit.

Meeting weekly at the YMCA, participants will be able to hang out in a cool and safe environment where they feel confident to grow and express their opinions and develop into positive members of society. They will also work together to create and host much needed youth events such as sport, music, fashion and outdoor activities.

Active Lifestyles for Seniors (ALFS)

Providing a holistic approach to helping senior adults in our community improve their health and well-being, we run twelve ALFS classes each week.

These classes are designed to provide a fun and enjoyable environment that helps participants maintain their independence and joy for life.

Settlement Support New Zealand (SSNZ)

Recognising that new immigrants move into our community every day, the YMCA Tauranga proudly runs its SSNZ initiative.

Offering settlement information, referrals to services, orientation workshops and discussion forums, the Y helps out hundreds of Bay of Plenty newcomers each year.

Education Classes

Year-round, the YMCA Tauranga runs free Foundation-Focused Training Opportunities (FFTO) programmes for people registered with WINZ as job seekers in the greater Tauranga area.

These programmes teach transferable skills to take into industry or to continue on with learning.  The vocational courses available are Workplace Computing and Early Childhood Education while Work Ready helps school leavers and recent or long term beneficiaries ready themselves for the workplace.  Twice a week 14 parents and their children attend our MAPS programme.  Designed to increase the literacy and numeracy of parents, the ultimate goal of MAPS is to improve the education and well-being of their children.

We work with quality volunteers to provide an enriching experiences for our participants in our region, and what we find is that for volunteers it proves to be an enriching experience for them also.

People that volunteer on our holiday and after school care programmes have loads of fun and make new friends. They engage in a positive, fun and motivating time and come away with valuable work experience.
