Thelma Cane, Life Member
Thelma moved to Mount Maunganui from Auckland in 2006. She had
belonged to the Meadowbank U3A for five years. In her second year here,
she was elected Groups' Coordinator.
That year, U3A Tauranga had a stall at the Seniors' Day Exhibition
and as a direct result received 100 new members in just a few days. At
a New Members' meeting, 70 people signed up to various interest groups.
New Groups were started up to accommodate them, and Thelma says that in
the last three years she has started 45 new groups. This year, she is
standing down as Groups Coordinator but remains a committee member.
At the Annual General Meeting in February, she was awarded Life
Membership. President Ken Gillan presented her with a framed
certificate to commemorate her valuable years of service to U3A.
