What is a Camera System?

A surveillance camera system consists of at least two main parts, a camera and a recorder.  The camera captures images of the required scene and sends them to the recorder.  The recorder stores this data so that the user can view it at a later time.

The recorder will have a maximum number of camera inputs that it can take, usually 4, 8, 12, 16 up to 128.  This is the number of cameras that can be connected to the recorder and be recorded.  It will usually have a hard disk drive to store the data on and a CD-Writer to transfer the data to CD if the user wants to give the images to other people, such as the Police.

There are many different types of cameras and lenses to fit them, depending on what view you want - a wide angle view of an office area or a tight zoom shot of a driveway to get vehicle registration plate details.

Are your cameras out of focus or need readjusting to view what they should be viewing.
