In my last article I talked about identifying ‘Workplace Hazards’. This month’s newsletter follows on from that article and covers ‘Manual Handling and Minimising the Dangers’.
A few months ago, I contacted ACC and asked them for the most up to date workplace injury statistics. It turns out that just under a third of all ‘paid out’ workplace injuries are related to lifting. As of the end of last year, there are 67,000 active ACC claims, all thanks to bad lifting technique in the workplace. This makes back pain New Zealand’s number one occupational health and safety problem. Back injuries are now a major factor affecting the performance of our workforce……
