Dr Rupinder Singh Sidhu, commonly known as Dr Raj is a qualified,
experienced naturopathic and ayurvedic practitioner, graduated from and . He has many years experience treating chronic or
difficult cases with success. His wife and colleague is Claudia Sidhu, a hair
diagnostician who has managed their private practice for 15 years. When they
emigrated from to they relinquished a well established practice, and
they have now moved to the cleaner air of .
Raj has treated a wide
range of people suffering a range of ailments - from the common cold to asthma,
metabolic disorders, liver problems, anaemia, depression, hair loss,
more. Raj looks at a
different picture - instead of looking for a specific disease, he analyzes his
patient’s whole body, their physical and psychical condition, to find what
might be out of balance. Once he identifies the particular “dosha” (or energy)
that is aggravated beyond its normal state, then he is able to formulate
preparations for each patient’s individual needs in accordance with their
constitution, in order to be able to effect a cure.
Can you explain what Ayurveda is and where it comes
from the Sanskrit word meaning "science of life and longevity", is the world's most ancient system
of preventive health care. Developed in over 7,000 years ago, it is a
natural approach to creating balance between mind and body and to strengthening
the body's healing abilities. It has a philosophy, a lifestyle and
a healing system. Ayurveda is filled with real-life stories of people who
struggled with chronic, degenerative and terminal illnesses, but found help
with custom-made Ayurvedic herbal medicines. Many of these people were at first
sceptical about Ayurvedic herbal treatment – as perhaps you are today. However, their experience after undergoing
our ayurvedic treatment has changed their life and their health for the better.
My experience is based on many thousands of patients from , and , all of whom
entered the highly fascinating world of Ayurvedic medicine. While before it had
appeared strange and foreign to them, they now found that they could achieve a
better quality of life by integrating their body, mind and spirit. Nowadays
medical newspapers and scientists all over the world are taking a closer look at
Ayurveda, to understand how it works and the promises that it may hold for the
What are the main differences between Ayurveda and
The first and foremost difference
between ancient Ayurvedic medicine and modern medicine is that Ayurveda is a
complete health care system. Secondly, Ayurvedic medicines don’t have any of
the side effects typically experienced with conventional medicines. The third and
final main difference is that we work on the cause instead of the symptoms. You
might ask - how is this done? Take the case of someone who has arthritis with
symptoms of swelling and pain as an example. What we try to find out is how
this condition is being created. What is the cause? And what is triggering the
pain our patient is feeling? What has caused the swelling and the pain? There
are so many blocks in such a situation - one block is pushing another. We must
work through all the blocks so that we can finally target the primary block
causing the symptoms and recreate the original balance.
Another distinctive feature of
ChaMunda Ayurveda is that our customized medicines work simultaneously on the
mind, the body and the emotions. They work on all of these levels together, not
just the physical. We acknowledge that every individual is unique - not all people
are the same. The mind works differently in everyone. This also sets Ayurveda
apart from conventional medicine, which doesn't take people's individual
differences into account.
What methods do you use at ChaMunda Ayurveda clinic to improve your
individual patient’s quality of life?
First of all, we identify
the cause of the imbalance and all its possible solutions through the pulse diagnosis.
The pulse diagnosis is a traditional Ayurvedic method of locating disorder in
the body and is particularly regarded as one of the most accurate tools in an
Ayurvedic doctor’s arsenal. Every organ can be located through the pulse and
can tell us of its medical history, its present condition, and whether it is
healthy or beginning to fail. We can
then determine which solution is most appropriate for the individual using this
What is your message for people suffering from serous diseases?
People should never lose hope,
no matter what. You may find the right person with the right attitude and the
right eye who can look at things from a holistic point of view. I think there
is always a way out.
