Kia Ora, my name is Tena and welcome to my website......... I'm of Ngati Raukawa descent, my Hapu is Kikopiri of Kapiti Coast. I love to paint........ I love to work on huge pieces of canvas so I can extend my whole self into my mahi. I paint with high grade acrylics rich in colours and textures. I'm not really sure what genre of art I belong in, probably contemporary as my paintings have evolved through many genres over my years as an Artist.
What inspires me........ at this point in my life it's definately my whanau, my sis Jakz, Maali my best friend, Andrean my other best friend, Luca (my son), Max my nephew, Georgia my niece, Keanu Georgia's boyfriend, Uncle Brett (my sis husband), Nan, Koro, Sophie, Brodie and Manu (my niece and nephew) and all their friends, especially the kids..............
My other main influences at the moment are Tangaroa (god of the sea), Ranginui (god of the sky)) and Papatuanuku (god of mother earth). Some of my recent work has been inpired by the Rena disaster and the ensuing oil spill. We live on this coastline, our family home is by the sea and my whanau love to fish and collect pippies and tuatua. All of our young men, old ones too, surf as do all their friends. Our ocean was poisoned for a time, it saddened my whanau greatly. Every morning I awoke I looked out to sea to see if Rena was still intact. Our ocean was dark for a short while but every morning we watched it get better as Tangaroa washed away the poison and the healing of our sea began and our ocean changed back to a beautiful blue. We collected oil from our beach, we grieved for our sea, our marine life, our birds. Papatuanuku and Ranginui (God of the sky) kept our weather calm to allow the salvors to retrieve the oil, our ocean was saved. We are all happy again, someone is always singing in our household. These are the things that inspire me. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I've enjoyed painting them.
I am available for commission work and paintings for rent for both corporate and residential rates which are switched over every alternate month. I welcome any queries and look forward to hearing from you. Kia Ora, Tena.
