This program is run in the first week of each school holidays on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9am-12.30pm. The occupational therapy emphasis is on confidence building, social skills, taking risks and learning new strategies through everyday activities. Goals are set by the parents and these are used to target learning opportunities for the children. Mate’s Place has an excellent staffing ratio and encompasses a multi generational approach to caring for the children. Among the staff, we employ Lindsay’s mother who is a trained nurse and experienced teacher’s aide and we also employ Carolyn’s teen aged sons who peer mentor the children. Mate’s Place also employs guest leaders who range from professional artists to martial arts experts.
