General English Courses

Our General English Courses are designed to help you communicate accurately and fluently, and you can start any Monday of the year.

The morning classes (9.00-10.30, 11.00-12.00) focus on grammar and vocabulary input and the afternoon classes (13.00-14.30, 15.00-16.00) help to improve your communicative skills, with the final hour dedicated to speaking.
There is a half-hour coffee break in the mornings from 10.30-11.00, and in the afternoon from 14.30- 15.00. We have an hour for lunch between 12.00-13.00

Part-Time: 12.5 hours a week in class, mornings (9.00-12.00)
or afternoons (13.00-16.00)

Intensive: 20 hours a week in class, mornings (9.00-12.00)

and afternoons(13.00-14.30)

Full-Time: 25 hours a week in class, mornings (9.00-12.00)

English Exam Courses

Our exam preparation courses are an excellent way to study for an internationally recognized English qualification such as Cambridge FCE, CAE & CPE, IELTS, TOEIC and TOEFL.

You will study full-time with one of our highly qualified and experienced teachers in a multi-lingual class of up to 12 students. There is no better way to prepare for that all important English qualification!

Before you can join one of our exam courses, you will need to complete a pre-test and acceptance is at the discretion of the Director of Studies. If you would like to discuss any aspect of an exam course, please contact us for further information.

TECSOL

Teacher training

TECSOL Teaching English to child Speakers of Other Languages) prepares teachers to teach English to children from 3-12 years of age.

Auckland only

Full – time 30 hours a week in class

Class size: maximum 12 students per class

Course length: 4 weeks

Course starts: refer to fees sheet or website

Course content: Child psychology and language development, materials and activities for teaching children, teaching methodology, language awareness, teaching practice and evaluation.

Fee includes: 4 weeks intensive training, assessed practice traching, a 3 day practicum at a local primary school or kindergarten.

Entry requirement: IELTS level 5 or pass Dominion TECSOL course entry test, 18 years plus.

Teenage School

(14 – 17years) – Make the most of your school holiday and study English in the morning and enjoy our varied activities programme in the afternoon. Our teenage courses are safe, fun and a great way to meet new friends from all over the world. Contact us for further information.

Important Notes

All students under the age of 18 who have no legal guardians permanently resident in New Zealand must stay at Dominion arranged accommodation.

Students 16 years + may transfer to the Senior School with approval from the Director of Studies.
