The Curiosity Cabinet is a new venture for Lopdell House Gallery and is
intended to provide an exhibition space and programme for upcoming and emerging
contemporary jewellers and artists.
Ben Beattie: Jewellery
13 October - 4 December 2011
Our first jeweller to exhibit in the Curiosity Cabinet is Ben Beattie of
Waiheke Island. Ben works with pounamu and creates works of intricate beauty
"I draw inspiration from the simple forms I see around me, they are so
familiar to us that we often overlook their beauty. By representing them in
stone, a permanent material, I hope to remind the viewer of their personal
connection with nature".
The beautiful book Len Castle: Making the Molecules Dance,
published by Lopdell House Gallery is now on sale through the gallery shop for
only $90. This book is a tribute to the late Len Castle and his energy and
vision as an artist. It has with 224 full colour photographs throughout, many
of which were taken by Len himself.
Clay Bodvin Prints
New in the gallery shop are works by local award-winning artist, Clay
Bodvin. These small and affordable, wall-mounted images are colourful, playful
and intriguing - perfect for brightening up small spaces or gorgeous as a
group. They are very well priced at only $115 each.
Clay recently won first prize for a self portrait in the 2010 WPGA Annual
