ITS IntelliTrac GPS Tracking ‘Insurance Box’ used to intercept theft Provides ‘a unique insight into the criminal mind’ Grand Theft Auto A BRAZEN criminal’s luxury ride in a stolen vehicle has been exposed by a device police say could stop car thieves in their tracks. The driver of the Audi A4 reached lethal speeds through residential streets, stalked housing estates and stole petrol while oblivious to the fact his 13-hour joy ride was being traced. It is believed to be the first time in Australia police have used the sophisticated black box-style gadget planted in the car to monitor the exact journey of a stolen car. “It certainly has the potential to give us a far greater chance of firstly locating the offenders and identifying them, and secondly it gives police and the owner of the vehicle a much greater chance of the vehicle being recovered,” Sgt Graefe said. The ITS intelliTrac GPS is fitted inside vehicles to help insurers determine who is at fault in a road incident. It can also help drivers hone their skills by translating speed and braking data into a safety score.
