InStudio Restoration and Conservation

Our workshop offers an excellent antique restoration and conservation service.

Johan has worked and studied this art for more than 30 years both in NZ and the Netherlands.
Most of the qualified antique restorers in NZ spend their time rectifying mistakes and damage

created by “crafts people” with little or no training in the finer art of antique restoration.

We guarantee our workmanship and discuss the condition and the treatment of the object before we start.

Recently Johan restored part of the interior of a historic church in Parnell Auckland, St John the Baptist (pic.)

This work was carried out in tandem with conservation architect Salmond and Reed Auckland.

Other clients include auction houses, collectors, insurance companies and institutes.

Restoration work we carry out includes:

  • Mirror and frame restoration
  • interior and interior surfaces
  • Gilding, including water gilding
  • Furniture restoration
  • French polishing
  • Insurance, private and institutional
  • Conservation treatment documented

NEW : Reduce cost by using our our on-site restoration and conservation service. Ideal for smaller or multiple repairs

such as: touch ups prior to an exhibition, marks, breaks and scratches due to transport or storage, condition reports.

Reduce risks and cost: no handling, crating and transport.

We endeavour to use traditional materials and techniques.
