A mixed, but very active, day for the Howick and St Heliers Judo Club on Day 2 of the 2011 NZ Judo Champs.
The second day of fighting in the 2011 NZ Judo Champs held at the North Shore Events Centre has seen 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals awarded to Howick & St Heliers Judo Club members.
Jonny De Jong took the Gold medal and is the New Zealand Champion for the Junior Boys -32kg division. Jonny also entered the Junior Boys Open but missed out on another medal.
The Senior Boys -45kg division had three Howick and St Heliers club members fighting in it. Cole Peters took the Silver medal in the division, fighting very well in the gold medal fight. Keon Visser took out the Bronze medal, defeating fellow club member Michael Harris in the bronze medal fight.
Connor Clarken fought well for a Bronze medal in the senior boys +55kg division. Connor also competed in the Senior Boys Open division, unfortunately losing in the bronze medal fight.
Rihari Iki fought in both the Junior Boys +36kg and Junior Boys Open divisions. While missing out in his weight category, Rihari took home a Bronze medel from the Open division.
Laura Thwaites was the only girl representing the club in this tournament and took part in the Junior Girls +36kg and Junior Girls Open categories. Laura took home a bronze medal from the +36kg weight category but missed out on a placing in the Open.
Other club members that competed, some of them getting into bronze medal fight in their weight categories, were:

- Mathew Chibel - Junior Boys +36kg and Junior Boys Open
- Aaron Killeen - senior Boys -36kg
- Stefan Puiu - Senior Boys -40kg
- John Clarken - Senior boys -40kg
All the club members supported each other throughout the day. In addition, advice and support was provided by sensei's Lawrie Crooke and Lorraine Rosser.
