Faithbox Inspires Bible Literacy at Somervell
At Somervell we’ve been getting very excited about the Faith4Families FaithBoxes!
In each of the Faith Boxes, families receive a CD with a few songs on it. In one, Phil Joel sings about the books of the Old Testament in order. At the beginning of the term, I challenged each of the children to memorise the books in order. The first person to do so would win a Faithbox for his/her family. Because the song is also called “The Ice Cream Song” (you’ll have to listen to it to see why!), everyone else who memorises the books receives an ice cream.
The anticipation built for a few weeks when finally, Joshua A. recited the books in front of the congregation and received his Faithbox. Our minister, Brett Johnstone, was so inspired by this he challenged the congregation to “Beat the Minister” at learning the books of the Old Testament. So far, no one has had the nerve…but his challenge has inspired many of us!
So far, five children have recited the books in front of the church! (One of whom is a preschooler who did the first half!!)
Many thanks to Faith4Families for inspiring our church to become more Bible literate! By Kaila Pettigrove, Children’s Ministry Co-ordinator, Somervell Presbyterian Church (Written for Kids Friendly Magazine).
