Communities taking part in Auckland’s Adopt-a-second-team programme have a huge variety of free events planned for the Semi Finals weekend of Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011).

Rubberband are the current 2011 Smokefree Pacifica Beats Champions. This summer they will embark on a great journey recording their first single “Love” and making the music video to go with it. Rubberband are keen to grab any opportunity to perform, keep them in good form for Raggamuffin 2012!

Formed 18 months ago, Rubberband are now all in their last year of Secondary School at Manurewa High School. All members have been playing and performing for many years with most of them clocking large hours in the Polynesian church band scene. The current lineup consists of:

Junior Ta’ala – Keyboards and Vocals
Nathan Simmons – Vocals
Henry Laussen – Drums
Neville Alaimalo -Bass Guitar and Vocals
Raymond Pierce – Guitar
Onesimus Mu’a – Guitar
Influences include: Sons of Zion, Ryan Leslie and Three Houses Down

The Name: During a band rehearsal various names were being thrown about with Ray (
guitarist) suggesting “Rubbish Bag” this was misheard by others as “Rubberband” and all
members then excitedly chanted “Rubberband, Rubberband…”. This was largely forgotten
about until a school performance when one of the members introduced the band as the
Rubberband.the name stuck.

Catch Rubberband LIVE this Saturday at the Auckland International Carnival 2011, Glen Innes Village.
