There is increasing interest in pole doubles. Both mixed and same gender doubles acts open up the possbilities on the pole dramatically. Australians Matty and Shimmy won 3rd Place in The World Pole Sport Fitness Champs in Budapest in October this year, the first year that a doubles category has been included. I love, love, love this performance. I love the story told by their movement and I also love that they..
Phoenix Kazree has only been pole dancing for a very short time. The trained dancers’ skills and beauty on the pole are remarkable. She recently won the 2011 California Pole Dancing Championship, despite her music cutting out half way through her performance. Like a consummate professional she carried on without missing a beat.
Phoenix also competed at the 2011 American Pole Fitness Championships, winning..
So you have a pole performance coming up. Choosing a costume is the fun bit!
You have 3 options here:
1. You buy something off the shelf.
2. You have something custom made.
3. You make it yourself.
The challenge with a pole costume is to have something that is attractive and different from the next costume but still allowing the required skin exposed for grip while minimising the possibility of ‘costume..
The inaugural Pole World Cup was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in September. These are the first and second placing performances from this wonderful event:

Okay, okay -- I know this is my second video this week, but I just had to share this with you. I am currently choreographing a routine so I have be shoaling around Youtube look for inspiration -- as you do! This, I have to say, is absolutely beautiful. I have nothing to say about this.
I don’t need to.
It speaks for itself; beautiful….

Marlo Fisken won 1st Place in the Aerial Pole International competition held in Berne, Switzerland this past weekend. There are a number of international competitions, but this competition attracted some top level competitors including Zoraya Judd and Oona Kivela who won ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Best Execution’ respectively. No video available yet of Marlo’s weekend performance, but this2nd..
I remember the first time I saw Pantera. Surfing youtube – as polers do – I came upon this woman who had the most amazing tattoos. I wasn’t sure whether the tattoos influenced me, but she seemed to have a raw, animal strength about her. I have since found out of course, that it was Pantera Blacksmith. She is currently touring in Europe and will be visiting Australia and New Zealand from late March..
Zoraya Judd is a name well known in pole dancing circles. She has been pole dancing since 2008 following the birth of her second son and and since then her unique style has kept her at the forefront of the sport, most recently winning both the “Pole Idol” and “Pole Art Champion” titles at the 2010 International Pole Championship held in Tokyo in December 2010. Her costumes and body art..
Male pole dancers are amazing. The upper body strength most women have to work so hard for comes so naturally to men hence the impressive strength moves they can perform on the pole. One of my favourite male pole performers is Josiah “Bad Azz” Grant. A trained dancer, he discovered the pole at age 17 and has made a name for himself as one of the world’s most recognised male pole performers. He has..
As many of us in studios around New Zealand think about preparation for the NZ Amateur Pole Performer Competition, I have had a scout through the U.K version of this competition, the UKAPP, on You Tube to see what sort of performances the judges may be looking for in our competition. The NZ competition has 4 categories for entry:
Level 1 – The Performer
Level 2 – The Intermediate
Level 3 – The..
Oona Kivela from Finland is a pole performer to watch for the future. She didn’t make it into the placings at the Pole Dance World Championships, although there are those who believe her performance was worthy of a placement. She did, however, win the Northern European Battle of the Pole in Sweden in January 2010. Have a look at her performance at the World Championships here and judge for your self..
Those of us who love the pole fitness side of our sport and eschew it’s more ‘exotic’ connotations will be thrilled by these Mallakhamb performers featured recently on The Ellen Show. Not only are these performers amazingly athletic, the speed with which they perform their tricks beggars belief. This video truly looks like it is on fast forward! Mallakhamb is a traditional Indian sport in which the..
I have watched this video many, many times. The beautiful Rafaela Montanaro is a Brazilian who placed 3rd in the 2010 World Pole Sport and Fitness Championship held in Zurich in October 2010. Her strength is palpable and impressive and her style is gracefully athletic. She does look very muscular and has received some criticism and assumption that she is taking performance enhancing supplements.
