What we do

As well as providing accommodation we have a number of programmes that help residents develop the skills they need to parent confidently and have healthy, well-cared-for newborn babies.

Our programmes include:

a life skills programme that teaches the basis of home management, budgeting, cooking and housekeeping - residents take an active role in the daily routine of the home learning through "hands on experience"
parenting skills that include looking after a newborn, education, involvement with medical professionals and attendance at antenatal classes
an educational programme that encourages residents to continue with their studies at one of the local schools or through correspondence education, we also work with each resident to develop a work/education plan for after the birth of their baby
counselling to help residents mend broken or strained relationships with family and friends.

House of Grace - service

We've had girls from all walks of life come through our doors - some have stayed at the home for the duration of their pregnancy; others have needed advice and assistance. Whether girls have just found out they're pregnant, are three weeks away from their due date or have already had their baby we can help. The House of Grace is for pregnant teens and young women, aged 12 - 23, from the lower North Island and upper South Island.

House of Grace - after

Through the aftercare programme we help the mums liaise with other support organisations within their community from assistance with income entitlements through to child health organisations. Mum and baby can stay at The House of Grace for up to three months to ensure good feeding patterns and routines are developed. We continue to support the residents even after they have given birth.

House of Grace - where

There are communal areas for the residents to use, such as a kitchen, living rooms and dining area, as well as three self-contained rooms for the use of the houseparents and a room for the relief houseparents. You'll find us in Newlands, Wellington - we're close to all amenities and the central city. We can provide accommodation for up to five girls and one baby.
